Tappan collection, 1862-1903.

Account book of an unknown farmer, probably from Tioga County, N.Y. includes a record of all transactions, a farm inventory, and home remedies; an undated scrapbook compiled in Mark Twain's Autobiography and First Romance, with song lyrics, stories, and a few handwritten poems; Civil War furlough permit for Charles S. Gryan, New York Volunteers, 24th Regiment; and a 1903 letter from J. S. Kingsley, Principal, Newark Valley High School to R. W. Richardson, Owego, N.Y., thanking him for a loan.

Roger and his wife, Carrie Johnston, married in 1929. Both attended LSU during the move to the new campus in the mid-1920s. Carrie's father, Hamilton Johnston, was a professor in the College of Engineering in the 1920s. Roger was also professor in the LSU College of Engineering in the 1930s.
